faq

1) Why therapy?

When it feels as if you need a change in yourself, your couple or your family relationship, therapy is a good way to help you make those changes.  Therapy is the best investment you can make in yourself and your relationships. It offers the chance to change old patterns, develop new and better communication, and explore new solutions to problems. Going to see a therapist is a sign of personal strength - a recognition of the importance you give to yourself and those close to you.

2) What is therapy like?

Your session will be a therapeutic conversation between you and your therapist in a way that focuses on what you feel is important.  It is a time to deal with what will be most helpful to you in a way that is comfortable for you.  You are encouraged to talk freely without the fear of judgment.

3) How long will therapy last?

It is understandable that you want positive change to happen as quickly as possible. The goal is to do just that, while recognizing that each situation is unique.  The length of time depends on the issues you bring to therapy and your goals for change.

4) Why call a therapist at all?

Deciding to contact a therapist is a big decision and finding the therapist that is right for you is a daunting task for anybody. Contacting me by phone or e-mail will help you to answer any questions that you might have.

5) Will I be doing Art or Sandplay therapy?

This depends entirely on you.  The process will be explained and offered to you, but you may decide that it is not part of the work that you want to include in your therapy process.

6) If I decide to do art or Sandplay therapy, will I do it all the time?

Again, the decision is entirely up to you.  Some people like to try it and ask to continue it on a regular basis.  Others prefer to use it from time to time to uncover thoughts and feelings that are difficult to verbalize.  The choice is yours.

7) What are your qualifications?

I have three years post-graduate training in Marital and Family Therapy, a Masters degree in Art Therapy and have trained in Group, Transcultural and Sandplay Therapies.

8) What are your fees?

My fee is $90 for a 50 minute session.

9) Can I claim sessions against my private insurance?

I am a licensed member of the Academy of Naturopaths & Naturotherapists (ANN). If your insurance policy covers the services provided by a licensed naturopath, then yes you may claim the cost of your sessions against your insurance up to the maximum allowable by your policy.
